Programs
To accompany and enhance its exhibitions and other educational activities, the Gregg Museum schedules a wide range of programs, including lectures, artist residencies, film screenings, virtual and in-person tours, and other immersive art experiences throughout the year. All are open to NC State and general public audiences alike and provide a welcoming environment in which to discover and exchange ideas.

Mindfulness in the Museum: Tai Chi in the garden
Thursday, May 9, 10 to 11 a.m.
The Mindfulness in the Museum series offers a place for attendees to experience relaxation, cultivate community, and enjoy the beauty of art. For this session of the series, Imari Colón, Director and Founder of East Cloud Kungfu, will lead a Tai Chi class in the Gregg Museum’s gardens. Bring a water bottle and dress comfortably.
Babenga – The Sacred Forest Opening Reception

Join us on May 16 for the opening of Babenga – The Sacred Forest featuring the works of Jean Michel Dissake.
Dissake’s sculptural works use found and recycled materials to represent a balance between nature and technology by weaving natural objects such as wood, vines, termite dust, water hyacinths, and palm fronds together with computer boards, aluminum wire, license plates, and car parts. Informed by his cultural heritage as well as wisdom gained from living for nine years in the forest on the Mungo River, Dissake’s work invokes a dialogue on ecological and spiritual matters and speaks to timely issues of unity, peace, love, and oneness with nature. This exhibition is co-curated by Marriott Sheldon and Roger Manley. Come enjoy hors d’oeuvres, beautiful art and community.
Children’s Summer Art Program
June & July, 11 a.m. – noon
The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is launching its first ever summer program series for elementary school children in the Triangle area. Every Tuesday in June and July from 11 am-noon, activities will be offered that focus on learning about artwork through the Gregg Museum’s exhibitions. Sessions are tailored to specific age groups, and children can participate in hands-on art projects while learning about different artists and types of art. Registration is required prior to attending each program and parent/guardian supervision is required for the duration of the session.
Tour of Material Messages led by Mary Hauser
June 6, 6 p.m.
Join Mary Hauser, (Interim Director) for a tour of Material Messages: The Tales that Textiles Tell. This exhibition explores how different cultures communicate both similar and distinct messages through their particular cloth making traditions, and reveals the depth and breadth of the artistic visions of these multicultural makers. Hauser will highlight some of her favorite pieces and explain some of the installation techniques utilized in the exhibition.
