Fantastic Fauna-Chimeric Creatures, Members-Only Meet & Greet with Beauvais Lyons
Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 5:30 pm
RSVP required – FOG members will receive an email invitation
This is a special opportunity for the FOG members to meet and interact with the curator of this fascinating collection, Dr. Beauvais Lyons, Director of the Hokes Archives and art professor at the University of Tennessee. Part archaeologist, part scientist, part satirist, part artistic visionary, Dr. Lyons, on behalf of the Association for Creative Zoology, presents evidence that exotica throughout the animal world is merely a representation of the creative presence in all things.
Join director Roger Manley and your fellow Friends of the Gregg before the doors open to the public to hear firsthand from Dr. Lyons about the cultivation of these prints. He’ll share his unique insights about how they serve as evidence that these fantastical creatures are merely tangible examples of divine creative inspiration and resulting flora and fauna.
The public exhibit opening reception will begin at 6 pm, immediately following the members-only meet and greet. The opening reception will feature a performance by North Carolina Opera from their upcoming production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
