Art2Wear: Through the Archives

March 4 - July 5, 2025
Randy and Susan Woodson Gallery

Art2Wear is an annual wearable art production that combines students’ talents across the College of Design, NC State and beyond. Each year, students are challenged to design, collaborate and produce around a specific theme, inspiring the imaginations of young designers. The production itself combines technology, art, and fashion for a night of performance and celebration. Art2Wear’s mission is to empower students through collaboration, innovation, and education.

Art2Wear: Through the Archives explores the history of Art2Wear from its inception to today, engaging countless students and faculty who push the boundaries of traditional art each year. This exhibition is co-curated by Art2Wear’s student committee and the Gregg Museum team.

ART2WEAR

On May 3, 2002, six students from the College of Design presented their work at the Kamphoefner lower courtyard on NC State’s campus. Spring azaleas and tealights framed the runway as family and friends admired the wearable designs featuring vibrant colors and silhouettes. This was the first Art2Wear production. Since 2002, Art2Wear has evolved beyond the traditional runway into a production that combines technology and art, pushing the boundary of what “wearable art” can be. What started with friends and family has grown into one of NC State’s most anticipated events. The art on this wall displays Art2Wear from its inception to today, showcasing student designs, posters, and more. Visitors of the lounge can explore the evolution of style, themes, and production techniques, gaining a better understanding of how the production has continued to adapt throughout time.  As you step into the lounge, let it transport you back into the early days of Art2Wear and guide you through its evolution. Each piece, from the garments to the images, tells a story of creativity and ambition–a journey that continues to inspire NC State students and designers today.

Art2Wear will host a live event at the Gregg Museum on April 24, 2025, where the lines between art and performance blur. This year’s Art2Wear theme, “Revive,” explores the art of renewing and transforming ideas, traditions and forms. Art2Wear 2025 reinvents the traditional runway show, turning the beautiful Gregg Museum of Art and Design into a dynamic stage for wearable art. The models are stationed as living exhibits throughout the museum, inviting the audience to explore, engage and appreciate the craftsmanship, designs, and ideas of NC State students up close.
