The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is launching its first ever summer program series for elementary school children in the Triangle area. Every Tuesday in June and July from 11 am-noon, activities will be offered that focus on learning about artwork through the Gregg Museum’s exhibitions. Sessions are tailored to specific age groups, and children can participate in hands-on art projects while learning about different artists and types of art. Registration is required prior to attending each program and parent/guardian supervision is required for the duration of the session.

For ages: kindergarten – 1st grade

Children and caretakers will learn about Vollis Simpson’s whirligigs through careful looking, a scavenger hunt, and an art making activity that children will take home at the end of the session.

Parent/ guardians are required to be physically present in the room with children for the entirety of the program.

FAQ

Q. Can older children attend the young child’s session (and vice versa)?

A. Yes, we understand that families may be bringing multiple age-groups to the museum for the summer program. Please note that different ages can participate in the activity, but the lesson will be geared to the specific age-group that is listed. If another sibling/child is attending, and plans to participate, please make sure to include them when registering for the program.

Q. Can I sign up my child(ren) for all 3 sessions?

A. Due to limited spots for each session, please sign your child(ren) up for one session so others can attend another session. For each age-specific class, the activity will be the same.

Q. While child(ren) are attending the program, what is available to parents/guardians?

A. Sessions 1-3 (kindergarten-1st grade) will require adults to be physically present in the room with children, while for sessions 4-9, guardians must remain on the museum premise but not necessarily in the learning space. Please feel free to explore our current exhibitions or enjoy the museum’s pollinator garden during the duration of your stay.

Q. What can we do after the program is over?

A. The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is located next to several restaurants within walking distance. While food is not allowed in the galleries, feel free to bring your own lunch and enjoy the museum’s pollinator garden after the session has ended.
